Read MoreBrand Spotlight: Hourglass
We wanted to start a new “series” of sorts by featuring different brands that we love and the products within those brands that we use the most. As we are nearing the holiday season these posts could also give you some good gift ideas! It is no secret that I am a product junkie. I love trying new makeup products and read a lot of reviews and blog posts on new products so I thought I could share my 2 cents and experience with the products featured here today. When I think of the brand Hourglass I think of soft glowing skin and products that seem to last all day. Their catch-line for their brand is “Luxury Performance Makeup” and I couldn’t agree with that statement more. The first Hourglass product that I tried was the Veil Mineral Primer and after it made my foundations last longer on my oily skin I decided to try more of their product line. Here are the star products that I am loving right now: Ambient Light Edit (limited edition) – This a bit more on the pricier side but as it has a powder for every part of your face I think it is worth the investment. This palette is perfect for someone wanting to try out their powders without having to buy each one individually. I also love how compact it is for travelling. Veil Mineral Primer – According to Sephora’s site it is a water-resistant primer that neutralizes the skin, minimizes shine, and creates a smooth, uniform canvas for flawless makeup application. I have gone through 4 bottles of this liquid gold. Need I say more. Ambient Bronzer – This bronzer gives you the perfect sun kissed glow. It is definitely on the warmer side so I wouldn’t use this to contour the skin. Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light – I use this powder to give the most natural and soft highlight to my cheekbones. Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil – This brow pencil combines powder and wax with an angled shape to softly define your brows. It also has a handy brush on the other end to brush out your brows. **big thanks to Kristina from Inspired by Lynne for shooting this holiday makeup layout for us!!

When we heard that a couple was thinking about hiring us for their Iceland elopement this past July all we could do was hope that they would end up booking us and they did! In the 3rd week of July we traveled with Schimine and Stephen along with Nicole Ashley her husband Jon and Stef’s husband Drew. Nicole was shooting the wedding along with Jon and Drew came along to drive and play guitar on their wedding day. We wanted to show some behind the scene photo’s that Nicole shot since their full magical wedding post is up on her site now. Having a couple like Schimine and Stephen was a dream for us. They let us help them choose what looks to have for their wedding day and their second day of shooting after their wedding. We were on site with them all day to touch them up and make sure they looked absolutely perfect. I even officiated the wedding ceremony and Stef shot the whole wedding on a GoPro. For Schimine’s wedding day look we went with a very Vicoria Secret look with bronzed eyes and a peachy lip with bombshell curls. One the day that we shot their second look we went with a smokey neutral eye and a vampy lip matte lip color from MAC called Sin. Stephen had longer hair so Stef was able to style it in a way that looked truly magnificent blowing in the wind. We can’t thank Schimine and Stephen enough for trusting us all with their wedding day and we know that it was a trip that none of us will forget.

We wanted to get back into filming some hair tutorials on YouTube and we decided our first one back should be a simple and beautiful waterfall fishtail tutorial. We used the time during Kristina’s bridal hair and makeup trials to film a few tutorials. It is a creative twist on a traditional fishtail tutorial. In the video we added in some dried lavender flowers but you could also swap those out for an antique broach or pins to make the look festive for the holiday season.

Since we do so many different things for our work and site we decided to split up our weddings of 2014 and 2014 year in review into two separate posts. Click here to check out all of the lovely brides we had the pleasure of working with in 2014! This past year has definitely been the year of adventures, travel and frequent collaborations with the talented Nicole Ashley, Kristina of Inspired by Lynne and Hunt Amor, and best of all – the new additions to our crew with Selah arriving in July. Scroll down to see what kind of adventures we were up to each month. In January Janna traveled to Cuba to second shoot a wedding with Nicole Ashley as well as style the bride Jazmin’s hair. The full post on her adventure can be viewed here. We then traveled to LA to attend the IMATS conference, aka makeup heaven, there and of course did a post on everything we spent all our $$ on. Janna then traveled to Vancouver with friends to watch Volcano Choir perform and Stefanie stayed back in Edmonton to attend the Swept Bridal show with Kristina and Nicole which Kristina wrote about on her site. In February Stefanie did hair and makeup for a styled shoot that is also featured on our 2014 brides. February seemed to be a month of photo shoots ranging from styled boudoir with our model Brittany, boudoir marathons as well as some maternity and engagement shoots. In every shoot this year with Nicole Ashley we got to use the stunning locally made jewelry by Hunt Amor. March was full of meetings about an upcoming collaboration shoot that then got featured on the Wedluxe blog. All the hard work really paid off and it was amazing working with some of the best in the business. I wanted to take a moment to also acknowledge the beautiful mother/daughter shoot we had the opportunity being a part of with Nicole Ashley-these three beautiful souls Ronna Kayla and Brittany are the types of clients that imact your life and I am so glad to have met them! March also brought an opportunity to attend every woman festival at Lexus south point with our friends Amor (from Hunt Amor) and Nicole Ashley. It was at this event we did our first donation for their silent auction. Teaming up with Nicole Ashley for hair and makeup in a boudoir marathon- and the…

I am always on the hunt for the “perfect” full coverage concealer and I think that my search is finally over. When I went to LA IMATS with Stef I purchased 2 shades of the OCC skin conceal. OCC is a vegan and cruelty free brand which is amazing and I noticed that it doesn’t make me break out at all. I have very sensitive and breakout prone skin and some concealers (MAC Studio Finish concealer cough cough) make me break out almost instantly. Full coverage concealers are perfect for covering up hyperpigmentation, tattoos, scarring and very red pimples. I purchased 2 colours to that I could create a custom blend depending on if I was tanned.. aka using St. Tropez.. or my regular pale self. The 2 colours I have are YO and R1. The best part about these concealers are that they are super pigmented and you need only the tiniest amount of product. I have tried them under my eyes but found them to be a tad too thick for my personal taste and have stuck to using them just on my blemishes. *from my knowledge in Edmonton you can’t purchase the concealers in-store but OCC does ship to Canada or you can purchase them through Sephora online. Temptalia did a great post with swatches of all the shades to make it easier to figure out which one or two to order
